The Name
What is Stratagem?
U.S. strategy must take a holistic, interdisciplinary, and innovative approach to solving global challenges: a Stratagem. The challenges of our generation — the erosion of the Westphalian world order by nonstate actors, the rise of AGI and emerging technologies, the collapse of the Bretton Woods system, the failure of neoliberal economics, the decline of multilateral institutions, climate change, global health resilience, and great power competition — each requires its own strategy.
Unfortunately, we face all these problems and a litany of others simultaneously. Our founder chose the name Stratagem to encapsulate our goal of changing how our generation approaches national security strategy.
Where there is possibility, there is opportunity. The erosion of the post-WWII order is tragic, yet provides a once-in-a-generation opportunity to design a new system. At Stratagem, we leverage our deep knowledge of international affairs across interdisciplinary backgrounds to outline a better future and implement change wherever possible.
